Event Description:
Amarillo Opera is excited to announce the presentation of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s EVITA on April 7 - 9, 2017! Set in Argentina during the 1930’s, 40’s and early 50’s, the musical portrays one of the most controversial and influential women in the Western Hemisphere. In 1945 Evita married Juan Peron and together they rose to power as President and First Lady of Argentina. Evita’s presence is still felt in Buenos Aires, a beautiful city often called “the Paris of the West”. We invite you to join us on April 1st for Fol de Rol: A Buenos Aires Ball! Imagine. . .You and your friends have arrived in Buenos Aires to attend the Gala at the Teatro Colon. (Amarillo Country Club) The Colon Theater, renowned for its acoustics and architecture, is considered one of the top opera houses in the world along with La Scala, Opera Garnier and the Royal Opera House. Your first day is spent touring historic sites and tomorrow you have plans to visit the polo field that is home to the Argentine Open Polo Championship. The following day you will experience a full-day fiesta at the Estancia Santa Susana gaucho ranch. . . Tonight, however, a magical event awaits you! The excitement escalates as you prepare for an elaborate evening of feasting, imbibing, dancing, entertainment and just maybe an April Fool’s prank or two! Everyone in your party is eager to depart early for the Gala and visit the interesting shops near your hotel (silent auction), watch street performers and enjoy aperitivos at one of the popular Tango Bars or Casinos before arriving at the Colon Theater. After visiting the Tango Bar you vow to return after the gala and participate in tango lessons! But for now, you have arrived at the Teatro Colon! A gourmet dinner featuring an Argentine menu paired with Argentine wines awaits you in the Grand Foyer. While enjoying a four course meal, you discover the locals (portenos) are still talking about the evening in 1947 when a strikingly beautiful and elegant Evita attended the Teatro Colon. . . (and if you listen carefully, you may just hear her proclaiming her love for Argentina and asking Argentina to love her. . . You thrill at the beautiful voices entertaining you and soon discover there is more shopping to do (live auction) before dessert is served! Oh! What a night! And it is only just beginning! Make your reservations today and join us at the Amarillo Country Club for Fol de Rol 2017!
