Ancient history really does "rock"! 🪨 If you're also a fan, we encourage y'all to attend our next Echoes of the Past program. We'll be exploring the Archaeology of Love, and would LOVE for you to make it! Included in regular admission or WBDC membership, we hope you've got your heart set on attending! 💚 #Archaeology #Discovery #Learning #Education #WildcatBluff #Amarillo #AmarilloTX

Check out ABC 7 Amarillo's news story on our West Amarillo Creek restoration project with Ogallala Life! We've made some great progress so far, but there are still plenty of opportunities to volunteer! Contact volunteers@dhdc.org if you're interested. https://lnkd.in/gdsJTape

You may hear some noise up at The Bluff - and it's not gonna be wildlife! We're THRILLED to say that we have partnered with Ogallala Life to restore water in old West Amarillo Creek, seen from the Bluff face right alongside Windmill Trail and the old ranch road. Part of that is moving dead trees, adding trees to the land, and excavating dirt. There will be several workdays from now through April as Ogallala Life's team starts to add mechanisms on the land meant to hold onto water. We're excited to see the beginning of these long-term water conservation efforts and the effects they have on our ecosystem. 💚

There used to be a roaring river right underneath the cliff that we call The Bluff. Eventually, it settled down to become West Amarillo Creek, and then between the wind and the Texas sun, dried up in the mid-1900s. Just a little bit of history to add to y'all's Tuesday. 🤠 If we have any history buffs who remember the creek, we'd love to hear your memories or see some old photos!

The Bluff has plenty of shades of gold to admire while you celebrate the new year. And what better way to start the beginning of something new than in nature? Proven to relieve anxiety and alleviate stress, nature is the best place to clear your mind and figure out what your 2024 will look like and reflect on 2023. We'll see you at The Bluff!

Today is the Winter Solstice! ☀️ This happens when the Earth reaches its maximum tilt away from the Sun; meaning in the Northern Hemisphere, you'll be experiencing the shortest day of the year and the longest night. 🤯 From this point forward, days will start getting longer and nights will get shorter. Seize your day, however short it is, and take a hike this solstice!

We love seeing pets on the trail, but they don't always adhere to our "Leave no trace" policy. 🐶 Help your four-legged friends out by grabbing waste bags before your hike!🐾 They love being outdoors as much as you do, but for the safety of our local wildlife and as a courtesy to other hikers, we ask that you pick up after them if they use the great outdoors as an outhouse.
