Weekly Payroll Execution

𝗗𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿: After the implementation of PeopleSoft HRMS system, weekly payroll processes running extremely long and putting process at risk if there were any issues. Payroll calculation and check write / journal entry processes both taking 13-14 hours each.
𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲: Design and implement system and process changes necessary to dramatically reduce the weekly processing time for payroll runs.

𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲: Design and implement system and process changes necessary to dramatically reduce the weekly processing time for payroll runs.
𝗦𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Worked with PeopleSoft SMEs and internal dba and system specialists to develop a innovative approach to our unique need (~50k EE on weekly pay cycle - all in single pay plan and processing group).
• Designed new process to effectively “split” calculation and check write process into 8 independent work streams
• Developed automated process to systematically execute "split" and "re-assemble" each week
𝗥𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘀: Dramatically reduced weekly runtime and effectively mitigated risk of long running pay processes
• Cut run time for each process down to under 2 hours
• Full payroll process from timecard input to journal creation reduced from 60+ hour to under 10 hours consistently
• Eliminated need for special accounting period end payroll processes

Cash Balance Pension Plan

𝗗𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿: SBC Communications had acquired a former "sister baby bell"- Pacific Telesis Group (PacBell & NevadaBell) and needed to consolidate pension plans for efficiency and ease of management.
𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲: Request from management was to also move away from a defined benefit plan (you'll receive $xxx / month as a retirement pension) to a defined contribution plan (we will contribute $xxx / month to your future retirement) for the non-bargained (exempt, non-union EE) plan as…𝗗𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿: SBC Communications had acquired a former "sister baby bell"- Pacific Telesis Group (PacBell & NevadaBell) and needed to consolidate pension plans for efficiency and ease of management.

• Coordinated processes for communication to all employees
• Built overall UAT / testing processes for change in bank for monthly benefit check writing
𝗥𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘀: Successful consolidation and conversion of both SBC and PTG pension plans into single plan.
• Effectively tested all scenarios for transition to cash balance plans
• Transitioned support from 2 in-house call centers to single 3rd party call center
• Meet delivery date for first check write of year to be from new bank

Import Purchase Order System

𝗗𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿: Builders Square increased the number of SKUs that were being purchased overseas, but needed to ensure efficient utilization of shipping containers for imported items.
𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲: Develop systems and process to enable buyers to generate real-time purchase orders for import items based on pack & size to fill a shipping container to reduced overall freight & shipping costs.
𝗦𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Led development effort to create combination of handheld devices…𝗗𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿: Builders Square increased the number of SKUs that were being purchased overseas, but needed to ensure efficient utilization of shipping containers for imported items.

𝗥𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘀: Enabled buyers to get pricing and order quantity commitments while in the market overseas and produce accurate orders via coordinated systems in Kmart foreign offices. -

𝗗𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿: Video rental was a rapidly growing and changing business for Hastings. We had separate registers and processes for video rental and book/music purchases. Many of our customers wanted to conduct both activities in a single transaction.
𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲: There was no commercially available POS system that would allow us to provide this service to our customers.
𝗦𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: I led team in development of our own POS system, created installation / training…𝗗𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿: Video rental was a rapidly growing and changing business for Hastings.
