Panhandle Greenhouses

I was shocked when I stepped foot in this place. It's out in the countryside south of Amarillo, not on a major road or visible from the highway, yet it was huge and gorgeous inside!

We were first attracted to the glazed pots outside because they had such a nice collection of colors. Then we walked into the greenhouse and were greeted with the heavenly fragrance of petunias from the many hanging baskets above the rows of plants. It's one of those nurseries where you can find just about any kind of plant you've been looking for. All of the plants are beautiful specimens in tip-top condition.

The greenhouse adjoins another greenhouse that is decked out with very luxurious patio furniture and decor and is followed by more rows of plants to the right and the main store entrance to the left. It's absolutely gorgeous in there!

We sort of explored this business in a round about way, but eventually made it to the front section of the store which is a large room nicely decorated with antiques, collectibles, and melamine dishes... all for sale!

This place is pricey, I would say twice the price of what you'd pay for a comparable product elsewhere, but it was such an unexpected gem we ran across while cruising the countryside that I think it's something everyone should explore when in the area. You will be delighted.

After seeing a post of some super cute animal planters on their social media, I rushed off to Panhandle Greenhouses. It was my first time there and it was a wonderful experience! The staff made sure that I knew that they were available to help, answered my random questions, and helped bring my purchases (unique and adorable pig and sheep planters - see picture of them in our backyard) to the car without even me requesting for help. The place is chock full with a variety of greens and supplies, and it's not even spring yet! I'm looking forward to going there in the spring to continue on my gardening!

A very large facility with nice healthy plants. Not a lot of selection but it may have been the time of year I was there. Staff was extremely helpful. I esp would like to see more of an emphasis on drought tolerant native plants

My first choice for plants, patio pots and furniture in Amarillo! Panhandle Greenhouse is THE BEST! Their staff is friendly, helpful and honest, and their selection is TOP NOTCH! They are hands down the BEST in Amarillo!

Prices are cheaper than Pete's but the quality is not as good, so you get what you pay for. It takes forever to get to Panhandle Greenhouses, pack a lunch! Don't expect much help- in the greenhouses the employees were standing around talking, but were not helping customers. We had to carry our purchases out ourselves, whereas Pete's always has employees to carry your purchases to your car. Pet peeve: the cashier simply handed me my receipt after I paid. She didn't even say thank you anytime during my transaction. Um, thanks- for nothing! I doubt I'll return.

This nursery was so much fun to explore. I will definitely be coming back.
The selection of garden items and plant material is excellent. Everything is very well organized. Related items are grouped intuitively, and the full range of items is displayed in a way that you can easily compare products or find other items that you might need to finish your project.
They had a wide selection of garden tools and accents including a very inviting fairy garden display. As a garden enthusiast myself, I could tell that the person ordering inventory has experience using the different products and picked the items that are durable and functional. Within each category, there's a good range of items with different features to suit different needs and tastes. They carry organic and synthetic (chemical) plant foods and pest control products.
The plants are extremely healthy and the selection is vast. They had annuals, perennials, vegetables, and tropicals. I inquired about shrubs, and learned that they will be available later in the month, after the danger of freezing weather. (They do not sell trees.) The plants were all clearly labeled with signs that displayed the price as well as the plants' characteristics and growing requirements. I appreciated that the nursery propagates a lot of the plants themselves and therefore had a wide range of sizes. They also had plants for sale that were not in bloom yet but that a knowledgeable gardener might want to buy now.
They had a whole building devoted to fountains, pottery and yard art. I saw some types of fountains like a large corner fountain that you don't usually find in other nurseries. The prices for these bigger items was good too, a little cheaper than I would have expected.
Every member of the staff (even the guy working in the back with the mulch and bulk materials) offered help many times. The staff were knowledgeable and excited to share information about their plants and products.

Best greenhouse in Amarillo with the friendliest staff. Very knowledgeable staff. Huge selection of plants and amazing geraniums. Their lawn care programs are great too!

These people know their stuff, and I'm quite comfortable taking advice from the daughter, who is wise beyond her years. It's only a couple of miles outside the city limits, and definitely worth the short drive.
